DMK’s IT wing and party mouthpiece Murasoli launched a coordinated attack on Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of undermining opposition unity and betraying alliance partners

The DMK has mounted a sharp two-front attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, with the party’s IT wing mocking him as a “massive joke” and its official mouthpiece Murasoli accusing him of weakening opposition unity and creating friction within the INDIA bloc.

The criticism comes amid deteriorating relations between the DMK and Congress following a dramatic political realignment in Tamil Nadu. After winning five Assembly seats as part of the DMK-led alliance in the 2026 Assembly elections, the Congress later exited the alliance and joined the Vijay-led TVK government, leaving the DMK in the opposition.

In a social media post, the DMK IT wing accused Congress of abandoning the party after receiving political support.

“We carried the INC on our shoulders when they were fighting for their political survival, only for them to jump ship the second they saw a shiny new toy,” the post said, concluding with a swipe at Rahul Gandhi by calling him “a massive joke”.

Murasoli questions Rahul Gandhi’s unity pitch

In a strongly worded editorial published on Monday, Murasoli challenged Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks on opposition unity and alleged that the Congress leader himself had contributed to divisions among alliance partners.

The editorial questioned how Congress could advocate unity while, according to the DMK, creating political tensions in multiple states. It pointed to criticism Rahul Gandhi had faced from Left parties in Kerala after he targeted Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and accused the Left Democratic Front of maintaining an understanding with the BJP.

According to the editorial, such remarks had prompted alliance partners to question whether Congress was focusing more on attacking allies than confronting the BJP.

    Congress accused of undermining allies

Murasoli further alleged that Congress had repeatedly acted against the interests of INDIA bloc constituents, even in states where regional parties were seen as stronger challengers to the BJP.

The editorial cited criticism from various opposition leaders, including members of Left parties and the Samajwadi Party, claiming Rahul Gandhi’s political approach had frequently created tensions within the opposition alliance.

Drawing parallels with Tamil Nadu, the DMK publication accused Congress of betraying the alliance after contesting and winning seats under the DMK banner before joining the ruling TVK coalition. It also suggested that the move had the approval of the Congress high command.

In its concluding remarks, the editorial blamed what it described as Rahul Gandhi’s “political immaturity” for growing strains within the opposition camp and questioned whether Congress itself was responsible for many of the alliance’s current troubles.

    Congress rejects allegations

Congress has not issued an official statement on the editorial. However, party sources dismissed the accusations and maintained that Congress had acted in line with the mandate delivered by voters in Tamil Nadu.

“The Congress has respected the people’s mandate in Tamil Nadu,” a party source said, rejecting claims that the party had undermined either the DMK or the broader INDIA alliance.
