Richa Parashar says she fell after Rahul Gandhi yanked her hand. Congress says she was caught in a scuffle
A political row has broken out after a journalist who is three months pregnant accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of pushing her to the ground while she was covering the Opposition’s march to the Supreme Court on Monday. Congress has rejected the allegation, calling it false.
The journalist’s account
Richa Parashar, who works for the news website Oneindia, said in a video message that Gandhi grabbed her hand and yanked it so hard that she fell. She alleged that he also pushed her cameraperson, who fell on top of her, followed by four or five other people.
According to her account, Gandhi reacted aggressively after she brought her microphone forward a second time. Parashar said she was upset by attempts to dismiss her version of events. “This is not about Congress or BJP,” she said.
BJP leaders step in
The BJP picked up the allegation quickly. Party spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari shared the video on social media, alleging that Gandhi had elbowed and grabbed the journalist and thrown her to the ground. He claimed that BJP leaders who visited her were told the same thing. BJP MLA Umang Bajaj said he learnt of the matter late on Monday night and condemned it.
Parashar was injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

Congress: “She was caught in a scuffle”
Congress leaders dismissed the charge. They said the journalist had been caught in a general scuffle involving police personnel and over-enthusiastic party workers, not targeted by Gandhi.
