Patna court extends protection to educator Faisal Khan in coaching institute firing case, directing police to refrain from coercive action
A Bihar court on Saturday granted interim relief to educator Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, during the hearing of his anticipatory bail plea in connection with a firing incident linked to his coaching institute in Patna.
The court upheld an earlier order directing authorities not to take any coercive action against Khan Sir until the next hearing, providing temporary protection from arrest as investigations continue.
The case stems from a June 2 incident involving vandalism and alleged firing outside the Khan Global Studies Institute. Patna Police subsequently registered an FIR against Faisal Khan and two others, citing their alleged involvement in the events that followed the attack.
According to police, a group of individuals vandalised the coaching centre and pelted stones at the premises late on the night of June 2. Following the incident, authorities launched an investigation and reviewed video footage from the scene.
In a statement issued by the Office of the City Superintendent of Police (Central), officials said a video recovered during the probe showed two individuals allegedly firing shots into the air after the vandalism had taken place.
Based on the footage and subsequent verification, police identified and detained two security guards associated with the institute. Officials said the two guards were arrested after investigators confirmed their identities through the video evidence.
Police further stated that investigations into the sequence of events and the recovery of weapons led to the inclusion of Khan Sir and two others in the FIR under provisions related to abetment and the Arms Act.
The development has sparked significant public attention, given Khan Sir’s popularity among competitive examination aspirants across the country.
In the aftermath of the incident, Patna Police also appealed to students not to become involved in disputes arising from competition among coaching institutes.
Authorities emphasised that no compromise would be made on law and order and urged students not to be influenced by professional rivalries within the coaching industry.
The matter is expected to come up for further hearing in the coming days, while police continue their investigation into the vandalism and firing incident.
