Maharashtra’s food regulator has launched separate action against a business operated by the family of accused Siya Goyal
The investigation into the sensational Ketan Agarwal murder case has taken a fresh turn after the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sealed a business owned by the family of prime accused Siya Goyal, citing alleged violations of food safety regulations.
The action was taken against M/s BG Goyal and Company, a spice and dry fruits shop located in Pune’s Market Yard and operated by Goyal’s family. Following an inspection, the FDA directed the establishment to suspend business operations until further orders after officials detected alleged non-compliance with mandatory licensing requirements.
During the inspection, officials collected samples of turmeric powder, sesame seeds and soybean chunks for laboratory testing. Authorities also seized nearly 4,172 kg of food products worth around ₹8.14 lakh, citing suspected labelling violations and possible adulteration.
According to the FDA, the firm had failed to update mandatory licence details despite regulatory requirements. Based on the alleged violations under the Food Safety and Standards Act, the regulator issued a notice directing the business to cease operations pending further proceedings.

The regulatory action comes as police continue to investigate the murder of 26-year-old Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal, who was allegedly pushed off a cliff at Lohagad Fort on June 18. His fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, have been arrested and charged with conspiring to kill him. Investigators allege the murder was carefully planned and disguised as an accident.
The high-profile case has remained in the spotlight, with Ketan’s parents separately appealing to the President of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a fast-tracked trial and justice for their son.
Authorities have not linked the FDA’s action to the murder investigation. The food safety proceedings are being conducted independently under the relevant regulatory provisions, while the criminal investigation into Ketan Agarwal’s death continues.
