The demolition of an Abhishek Banerjee-linked TMC office in Amtala has intensified the political battle in West Bengal

A major political controversy has erupted in West Bengal after a Trinamool Congress (TMC) office associated with the party’s national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, was demolished during an official drive in Amtala, South 24 Parganas. The operation, carried out amid heavy police deployment, immediately sparked allegations of “revenge politics” from the TMC.

According to officials, the demolition was undertaken as part of an enforcement action against the structure. However, TMC leaders alleged that the move was politically motivated and aimed at intimidating the opposition following the recent political developments in the state.

Heavy police personnel were deployed around the site to prevent any law-and-order issues as demolition equipment moved in. Supporters gathered near the premises, raising slogans and accusing the administration of selectively targeting opposition leaders.

The party claimed that the office had long served as a local organisational centre and questioned why authorities chose to initiate the demolition at this particular time. Senior TMC leaders described the action as an attempt to weaken the party’s grassroots presence and vowed to challenge the decision through legal and democratic means.

While authorities have maintained that the action was taken in accordance with applicable regulations, the demolition has added another flashpoint to Bengal’s already charged political landscape, with both sides preparing for a prolonged battle over the issue.
