CJP ends Jantar Mantar protest after government accepts demands
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) announced on Saturday that it was withdrawing its nationwide protest with immediate effect, following three rounds of discussions with the central government. The agitation, which lasted 49 days, centered on the NEET-UG paper leak controversy and related concerns about India’s examination system. The announcement came shortly after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan submitted his resignation.
The decision was announced at a joint press conference attended by Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Minister of State Jitendra Singh, and CJP representatives Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.
According to CJP’s public statement, the government agreed to three demands: compensation for families of students who died in incidents connected to the paper leak controversy, withdrawal of all FIRs filed against protesters and organizers by central and state authorities, and written confirmation of those withdrawals. Nadda said the government would review CJP’s separate five-point charter on examination system reforms and continue engaging with the group’s delegation on implementation.
Ranka asked protesters to disperse and return home, stating that the organization would share updates on any future course of action if required.
Pradhan, in his resignation statement, said the decision was intended to protect students’ interests and to prevent what he described as “anti-national” elements from using the protest for other purposes. Other political figures, including NCP leader Sharad Pawar, commented publicly on the resignation following the announcement.
The protest’s conclusion follows several weeks of demonstrations at Jantar Mantar that began after the NEET-UG paper leak came to light earlier this year.
