Platform restores PM Modi’s youth outreach video following criticism
Meta has admitted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s Facebook video was mistakenly restricted on the platform before being restored, bringing an end to a brief controversy that sparked sharp political reactions online.
The company said the action was the result of an error and confirmed that the video has now been reinstated.
The video, in which Prime Minister Modi addressed India’s youth on issues including examination reforms and action against paper leaks, briefly became inaccessible to users. During the restriction, Facebook reportedly displayed a notice indicating that the content had been limited in response to a legal request, prompting widespread questions over the reason for the action.
Following criticism, Meta clarified that the restriction had been applied mistakenly.
“We removed the content in error. It has now been restored,” the company said in its response, apologising for the incident.
The temporary restriction triggered criticism from several BJP leaders, who questioned how the Prime Minister’s official Facebook content could become unavailable. The incident also reignited debate over the transparency of content moderation and the role of global social media platforms in handling political content.
The video was part of Prime Minister Modi’s outreach to young Indians, where he spoke about strengthening India’s examination system, thanked students for their feedback, and highlighted measures to curb paper leaks.
With the restoration of the video, Meta has maintained that the episode resulted from an inadvertent platform error rather than any policy violation or deliberate action.
