Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has issued a sharp warning to the Narendra Modi government over alleged irregularities in education and government recruitment, saying protests could intensify if the Centre fails to address what he called widespread “ghapla” or scams.

Speaking at Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar on Independence Day, Ramdev said students were raising legitimate concerns about problems ranging from inadequate facilities in educational institutions to alleged cheating and question-paper leaks. He also alleged that corruption and money power were influencing recruitment to government jobs.

“Kindly fix this, or else Baba Ramdev will have to protest again,” he warned, referring to his earlier anti-corruption agitation at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan in 2011.

    ‘There is chaos everywhere’

Ramdev alleged that several government schools and colleges continue to face shortages of teachers and basic amenities such as electricity, water and toilets.

He also raised concerns over examination irregularities, saying question-paper leaks and cheating were damaging the credibility of the education system.

On government recruitment, Ramdev made a particularly strong allegation, claiming that corruption was widespread in job interviews and that selections were sometimes influenced by caste and religion. He cited instances where candidates allegedly had to pay large bribes to secure government jobs.

While the claims are Ramdev’s allegations and were not accompanied by evidence in the reports, his warning comes amid continuing student protests over examination and recruitment processes.

    ‘I don’t support anarchy’

Despite backing the students’ concerns, Ramdev cautioned protesters against violence and lawlessness.

He appealed to members of Gen Z to keep their demonstrations within constitutional and democratic boundaries, arguing that young people should fight for their rights without resorting to violence.

Independence means having our own system” in areas including education, healthcare and the economy, Ramdev said, while urging young protesters to fulfil their duties alongside asserting their rights.

    Ramdev invokes 2011 anti-corruption protest

Ramdev’s warning carries added political weight because of his history of anti-corruption activism.

His reference was to the 2011 Ramlila Maidan protest, when he launched an agitation demanding action against corruption and unaccounted wealth. The protest was eventually broken up by police.

Fifteen years later, Ramdev’s latest warning signals that he could once again take to the streets if the concerns surrounding education and recruitment are not addressed.

He also appealed to Indians to reject caste and communal hostility and warned against attempts to divide society.

For now, his message to the Centre was blunt: fix the alleged irregularities or be prepared for another Ramdev-led protest.
