BJP has unveiled a 37-member national office-bearer team, blending veterans with younger leaders and expanding regional representation

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday unveiled its new national team under president Nitin Nabin, signalling a major organisational reset ahead of the next round of Assembly elections. The reshuffle brings several heavyweight leaders back into prominent positions while giving greater space to younger faces and representatives from different regions and social groups.

The biggest headline is the return of former Union minister Smriti Irani, who has been appointed one of the BJP’s eight national general secretaries. Former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje has retained a national vice-president position, while former national general secretary Ram Madhav has also been brought back as a vice president.

The appointments give Nabin a mix of seasoned political operators and newer organisational faces as he builds his first major national team after taking over as BJP president.

13 vice presidents, 8 general secretaries and 16 secretaries

The new structure includes 13 national vice presidents, eight national general secretaries and 16 national secretaries. B.L. Santhosh continues as national general secretary (organisation), while Shivprakash and Saudan Singh have been named joint general secretaries (organisation).

The vice-presidential team includes Raje, Ram Madhav, Tirath Singh Rawat, Baijayant Jay Panda, D Purandeshwari, Rekha Verma, Varshaben Doshi, Bharti Pravin Pawar, Manpreet Singh Badal, Lal Singh Arya, M Nagaraja, Tariq Mansoor and Madhuchandra Kar.

The general-secretary lineup includes Vinod Tawde, Sunil Bansal, Biplab Kumar Deb, Smriti Irani, Satish Poonia, Gajendra Patel, Harish Dwivedi and Sanjay Bhatia.

The BJP has also brought in several prominent names as national secretaries, including Sandeep Pathak, Anil Antony and Rohan Gupta.

Piyush Goyal gets key financial role

Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed the BJP’s national treasurer, with Rajesh Mangal named joint treasurer. The party has also made changes to its central office, media and social-media machinery.

The appointments reflect an effort to build an organisation that combines political experience with stronger grassroots and regional representation. Six of the 13 national vice presidents are women, while the wider team includes leaders from multiple states and communities.

A team built for the elections ahead

The reshuffle comes months before the 2027 Assembly elections, including the crucial contests in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Punjab, making the composition of Nabin’s team politically significant. The BJP is seeking to balance organisational continuity with a new generation of leadership as it prepares for the next electoral battles.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the new appointments, describing the team as a combination of experience, youthful energy and grassroots connect.

With Irani back in a key organisational position, Raje retaining national prominence and Madhav returning to the party’s central structure, Nabin’s first major reshuffle sends a clear message: the BJP is betting on experience, expansion and electoral readiness at the same time.
