A dispute over a reserved seat aboard the Aravali Express reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation
A routine seat dispute aboard the Bandra-Ganganagar Aravali Express reportedly spiralled into a bizarre confrontation after a 31-year-old Thane-based model allegedly stripped and attacked railway personnel with a razor blade.
According to the police complaint, Antara Soham Banerjee was travelling towards Surat on August 12 when a passenger asked her to vacate a reserved seat. The matter was subsequently brought to the attention of ticket checker Harikesh Tripathi and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel.
The situation allegedly escalated after RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector Yaminikant Mishra intervened. Police alleged that Banerjee became aggressive, removed her clothes and attacked Mishra and ticket checker Tripathi with a razor blade. She also allegedly injured herself during the confrontation.
According to the RPF complaint, mobile phones and other belongings were also damaged during the altercation. Railway personnel reportedly secured the coach to prevent the situation from escalating further. Banerjee was eventually taken off the train at Dahanu railway station and handed over to the Government Railway Police.
Case registered, accused gets bail
The Borivali Railway Police registered a case on August 13 in connection with the incident. Banerjee was subsequently released on bail, with the investigation continuing.
Police reports indicate that Banerjee was travelling to Surat for a shooting assignment. Some reports said the dispute began after she entered a reserved AC coach despite holding a sleeper-class ticket.
Actress mistaken for accused
The case also triggered confusion after photographs and reports incorrectly linked television actress Antarra Banerjee to the incident.
Her team later clarified that she is a different person and has no connection to the FIR or the train incident. The accused named in the police case is Antara Soham Banerjee, a Thane-based model.
The clarification came after several reports used the actress’s photograph while identifying the accused, prompting her representatives to publicly distance her from the case.
