Punjab Police exposes Pakistan angle in Tarn Taran Police station blast

The Punjab Police on Monday exposed the Pakistan angle to the Tarn Taran police station attack. The Police said that the Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), which was fired at a police station in the Tarn Taran district on Friday night, was smuggled from Pakistan and those who executed the attack have been identified.

Sukhchain Singh Gill, inspector general of police (IGP) said, “Under the Tarn Taran attack investigation, we have found that the RPG was smuggled from Pakistan, the rest of the probe is underway… Those who executed the RPG attack at Sarhali Police station have been identified. The rest of the probe is underway.”

Gill said that four suspects who provided logistic support, motorcycles, etc. for the RPG attack have been detained. “Two persons who executed this act, their identification process is going on…I cannot disclose any name at this stage. Identification, detaining of suspects and the process of further identification were going on,” he said, adding that police will disclose more facts including names, who was behind it, and how it was done in the coming two-three days.

“All minute details will be revealed once the investigation is over. I am saying this with all determination, we have unearthed the whole case, which we will present soon,” Gill added.

Tarn Taran Police Sanjha Kendra in Punjab was hit by an RPG. At the time of the attack on Friday night, eight persons, including Station Head Official (SHO) Parkash Singh, were present at the police station. The rocket-launcher-type weapon first hit a pillar and then hit the police station; sources added. The windowpanes of the police station were damaged, besides its main entrance.

Following the attack, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials arrived at the Sarhali Kalan police station in Tarn Taran on Saturday evening as the officials had suspected for “terror link” in the incident.

This was the second RPG attack on a police station in the state in seven months. Earlier, there was an RPG attack on Punjab Police’s Intelligence Wing headquarters in Mohali.
