CM Pinarayi Vijayan to undergo medical treatment in the US
At this crucial time when Kerala is battling with the COVID-19 surge, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan left for the US for his treatment at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Vijayan would return on January 29.
Vijayan left for the US with his wife Kamala and Vijayan’s personal assistant V M Suneesh. He spoke over a phone call to the Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and briefed him over his US visit.
He boarded the flight in the wee hours to an airport in the Middle East, from where he will board a direct flight to the US.
Vijayan is being trolled on social media ever since his travel plans to the US for treatment surfaced. Even Congress and the BJP took a dig at the “double standards” of the Communist’s general apathy towards the US in all issues, other than for medical treatments.
The chief minister’s travel came a day after the comparison surfaced between the Vijayan government’s two terms at the ongoing Thiruvananthapuram district CPI-M meeting which was inaugurated by him. A few of the delegates also criticized his second tenure.
One user tweeted, “Pinarayi Vijayan Considers China, Cuba and N.Korea as epitome of the ideal state. Wanted to import vaccines from impoverished Cuba to fight Covid in Kerala. Protested visit of Barack Obama. Books 15 day stay in Mayo Clinic in capitalist USA, at the expense of Mallus.”

In September 2018, he had visited the same clinic. The nature of his ailment is not disclosed.
