The controversy adds to Tej Pratap’s growing political troubles after his expulsion from RJD earlier this year
Former Bihar minister and Jan Shakti Janta Dal (JJD) chief Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, has been booked for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) while filing his nomination papers from the Mahua Assembly constituency in Vaishali district.
According to a statement released by Vaishali police on Sunday, the case was registered following a complaint by the Circle Officer of Mahua, who cited a viral video showing Yadav using a sport utility vehicle (SUV) with a police logo and beacon light during his nomination procession on October 16.
“It was thoroughly examined and found that the police logo and beacon light used on the vehicle were private ones. Therefore, a case was registered for violation of the election code of conduct,” the police statement said.
Tej Pratap Yadav, who recently launched his own party after being expelled from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on May 25, had been in the spotlight for a series of controversies. His expulsion followed a Facebook post in which he reportedly admitted to being in a relationship — a post he later deleted, claiming his account had been “hacked.”
Following his ouster, Lalu Prasad Yadav publicly disowned his elder son, citing “irresponsible behaviour.” Tej Pratap later alleged that a “conspiracy” was being hatched to create a rift between him and his younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav, describing the alleged schemers as “Jaichand” — a term historically used to denote traitors.
The Mahua seat, which Tej Pratap previously represented, is now set to witness a high-profile contest as the expelled RJD leader attempts a political comeback under his new banner amid renewed controversy.
