Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai has formally ceased to be a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after the party accepted his resignation on Friday.

In an official statement, the BJP said that its national president, Nitin Nabin, had accepted the resignation submitted by Annamalai from the party’s primary membership.

“The National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Hon’ble Shri Nitin Nabin, has accepted the resignation submitted by the Tamil Nadu Ex. State President, Shri K. Annamalai from the primary membership of the Party,” the BJP said in a release.

The development comes days after Annamalai travelled to New Delhi, where he held meetings with BJP national president Nitin Nabin, party general secretary BL Santhosh and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Annamalai is expected to address a press conference later in the day, during which he is likely to share details about his future plans.

On Thursday, the former IPS officer had announced that he would interact with the public through social media, describing it as an opportunity to share his thoughts and hold an “open, heart-to-heart conversation.”

“Tomorrow at 12 Noon, I eagerly look forward to interacting with you all on social media to share my thoughts and have an open, heart-to-heart conversation,” Annamalai wrote on X.

Speculation about Annamalai’s political future has intensified following the BJP’s performance in the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The party secured around three per cent of the vote share while contesting 27 seats as part of its alliance with the AIADMK.

In recent days, posters carrying messages such as “Our Leader, Come and Lead Us” have appeared across parts of Coimbatore ahead of Annamalai’s birthday, further fuelling discussion about his next political move.
