Speaker Row Turns Into Arrest: BRS MLC Tata Madhu Taken Into Custody In Telangana

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Thatha Madhusudan, popularly known as Tata Madhu, was arrested by Saifabad Police on Tuesday in connection with alleged derogatory remarks against Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, escalating the political confrontation between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS.

Police took Tata Madhu into custody around 7 am following a complaint filed by Pollepalli Venkatesham, Officer on Special Duty to the Assembly Speaker. Another BRS MLC, N Naveen Kumar Reddy, was also arrested in connection with the case.

Tata Madhu arrested as Telangana political row intensifies

The arrests followed a heated episode at the Telangana Assembly on Monday, when allegations were raised that Tata Madhu and other BRS leaders made abusive and derogatory remarks against Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.

According to the police complaint, the alleged incident took place around 9:30 am in an area of the Assembly premises accessible to the media and public. The complaint alleged that Tata Madhu and N Naveen Kumar Reddy, along with others, verbally attacked the Speaker.

The complaint further alleged that the remarks were directed at the Speaker with knowledge of his Scheduled Caste background. Police subsequently registered a case invoking provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

BRS MLC denies insulting Speaker

Tata Madhu has denied allegations that he insulted Gaddam Prasad Kumar. He has maintained that his remarks were directed at police personnel and not at the Speaker.

The controversy has triggered a sharp political reaction in Telangana, with Congress leaders condemning the alleged remarks and demanding action against the BRS leader. The incident also reportedly left the Speaker emotional, further intensifying the political fallout.

Congress-BRS clash escalates

The arrest comes amid an already tense political atmosphere in Telangana, with BRS leaders protesting against the Congress government and accusing it of failing to deliver on its electoral promises.

BRS working president K T Rama Rao and former minister T Harish Rao were among party leaders who were briefly detained during protests outside the Assembly on Monday.

The confrontation has now moved beyond the Assembly floor, with criminal cases being registered against BRS leaders and protests by the opposition demanding their release.

Case filed under BNS, SC/ST Act

Saifabad Police registered the case as Crime No. 364/2026 under Section 352 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Police said the investigation is being conducted by Inspector K Nageswara Rao.

The arrests are likely to further intensify the political battle between the Congress government and BRS, with the opposition alleging that the action against its leaders is politically motivated while the ruling party has defended the need for action over the alleged remarks.
