From protest to Hanoi: Rahul Gandhi leaves India again
As per the custom followed by Rahul Gandhi, he has left Indian shores on Sunday, reportedly for a sojourn in Hanoi, Vietnam, giving an indication that the agitation demanding the ouster of Gyanesh Kumar, Chief Election Commissioner, has fizzled out. The details of the itinerary of the Prime Minister-in-waiting have not been disclosed except for the information that he left for Hanoi on Sunday afternoon from the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Sources close to the Gandhi scion said that he has left for a much-needed rest and recuperation in Southeast Asia.
For Gandhi, it has become a habit to leave India for undisclosed locations across the globe each time the agitation led by him ends up in failure. (It is not known whether Neha Bora, his newfound love, is accompanying him.)
Immediately after the loss in the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Rahul Gandhi had left India for a 56-day tour to an undisclosed location. Since then, it has become a routine affair for him to undertake jaunts to exotic locations like Pattaya during critical times. All these trips are shrouded in mystery as the Congress leaders and the court jesters of 10 Janpath maintain a tight upper lip when asked about his trips. Interestingly, the commandos of the CRPF, entrusted with the security and safety of Gandhi, have complained many times that he or his office never gives them information about his travel schedule. The Congress leadership had retaliated by blaming the CRPF for writing a letter to the Union Home Ministry complaining about the indifference and callous attitude of Rahul Gandhi, who keeps them in the dark about his trips abroad.
All his journeys were listed as personal trips, and he has not been invited by any national or international organisations to address their meetings. The Congress, which wants to keep the Gandhis in good humour, issues releases that claim he has gone abroad as an invitee of various universities. But the only identifiable face during the meetings addressed by Rahul Gandhi is that of an Indian politico-technocrat with a Bulganin beard.
Some of the trips made by Rahul Gandhi were to hold secret parleys with known enemies of India, and it is widely believed that these meetings were part of fund mobilisation to overthrow the current BJP regime.
From December 2024 to September 2025, Rahul Gandhi undertook tours to Italy, Vietnam, Dubai, UAE, Qatar, Britain and Malaysia.
Rahul Gandhi’s withdrawals from the frontlines of political war at critical junctures are reminiscent of Lt Gen B M Kaul, who was the General Officer Commanding (1961-1962) of the Indian Army and was appointed to the post only because of his close relation with the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Kaul, with no experience in combat missions, was appointed as commanding officer of the North East Frontier Agency (NEFA), where he goofed up all operations led by him. The Battle of Namka Chu in 1962, led by him against the Chinese, saw the Red Army decimating and literally liquidating the forces commanded by Kaul. It was the first and last time the Indian Army saw one of its commanders leaving the theatre of war and taking refuge in New Delhi. The Battle of Namka Chu is taught in military academies across India to teach future army officers how not to fight a war. Rahul Gandhi is a close relative of Lt General Kaul.
Rahul Gandhi is expected to return to New Delhi with yet another issue to launch another agitation against the BJP-led government. Meanwhile, there are reports that the CJP has put on hold its plan to stage a coup in India because of the festival season and the ailment of one of its advisors.
