Bombay High Court orders CBI to register an FIR and conduct a fresh investigation into Disha Salian’s 2020 death

For six years, Satish Salian has been waiting for another investigation into the death of his daughter, Disha.

That wait took an emotional turn on Wednesday after the Bombay High Court ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the probe into the former celebrity manager’s death.

Salian broke down after hearing the court’s decision, saying he had been waiting for the truth to emerge for years. He expressed hope that the CBI investigation would finally establish what happened to his daughter.

    Court orders FIR, fresh investigation

The Bombay High Court directed the CBI to register an FIR and conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Disha Salian’s death.

The court also made an important qualification: no individual should be treated as an accused unless investigators find sufficient material against them. This means the fresh probe will examine the circumstances of the death before determining whether anyone should face criminal allegations.

The court has also directed that the relevant records and documents from the Mumbai Police investigation be handed over to the CBI.

    What happened to Disha Salian?

Disha Salian, who was 28, died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in Mumbai’s Malad area.

Her death came just days before actor Sushant Singh Rajput, whom she had previously managed, was found dead at his Bandra residence on June 14.

The timing of the two deaths led to widespread speculation about a possible connection. Mumbai Police had earlier said they found no link between the two cases.

Father’s allegations now part of CBI probe

Satish Salian had approached the Bombay High Court seeking an FIR and a fresh investigation, raising allegations about the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death.

Those allegations will now be examined as part of the CBI investigation. The court’s order, however, does not establish that the allegations are true; that will depend on the evidence gathered during the probe.

    Why the order matters

The CBI investigation effectively gives investigators a fresh opportunity to examine the evidence, records and circumstances surrounding Disha Salian’s death.

For her father, Wednesday’s order represents something more personal: after six years, the investigation he had been seeking is finally moving forward.
