Workers from WB stripped, thrashed for ‘misbehaving’ with woman
Eight workers from West Bengal were reportedly stripped, beaten, and paraded with tied hands by a group of enraged locals in the Sundargarh district of Odisha. The incident occurred after one of the workers was accused of misbehaving with a woman.
The incident took place at Mission Road, within the jurisdiction of Sundargarh town police station. According to reports, the situation escalated after a woman accused one of the workers of barging into her house and misbehaving with her. Angered by the accusation, members of the woman’s community and local residents caught the accused and seven other workers, parading them naked in public while tying their hands with ropes. The workers were also reportedly beaten by the crowd.
Upon receiving information about the incident, a police team arrived at the scene in an attempt to disperse the crowd. However, it was alleged that the locals even assaulted the police officers. Additionally, a journalist who attempted to cover the incident was reportedly threatened by those involved in the assault on the workers.
