Indian Army, J&K Police conduct joint operation; 5 terrorists eliminated in Kulgam

Ahead of the high-level security review meeting convened by Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, a joint team of security forces early Thursday morning eliminated five terrorists in the fierce gunfight in the Kader area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. During the firefight, two soldiers have suffered injuries and have been evacuated for medical care.

All five slain terrorists are believed to be the local cadre of a terrorist outfit.

The troops launched the operation on receipt of specific information about the presence of a group of terrorists at Kader, Kulgam early Thursday morning.

Chinar Corps in a post on X said, “On 19 Dec 24, based on specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists, a Joint Operation was launched by #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice at Kader, Kulgam. Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged, terrorists opened indiscriminate and heavy volumes of fire. Own troops effectively retaliated”. .

Senior police officers camping in the Kulgam district confirmed to media persons that all five terrorists have been eliminated and their dead bodies have been recovered from their safe hideout.

The local police authorities are ascertaining the identities of the slain terrorists killed in the operation.

So far 64 terrorists have been eliminated by the security forces across Jammu and Kashmir since January 2024. 31 civilians and 26 soldiers also lost their lives in these operations in the region.
