
Shaktikanta Das takes over as PM’s Principal Secretary-2
Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as the Principal Secretary-2 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to a government notification. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his selection, with the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issuing an official order.
Das’ appointment is co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever comes first. He will serve alongside P K Mishra, who has been the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister since September 11, 2019.
Shaktikanta Das’ legacy as RBI Governor
Shaktikanta Das, a former IAS officer of the 1980 batch from the Tamil Nadu cadre, served as the RBI Governor for six years, including a three-year extension during his tenure. He took charge as Governor in December 2018 and led the central bank through significant global economic challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.
Extension of BVR Subrahmanyam’s tenure as NITI Aayog CEO
In the same government notification, it was announced that BVR Subrahmanyam’s term as CEO of NITI Aayog has been extended for one year, starting February 24, 2025. A retired IAS officer from the 1987 batch, Subrahmanyam was appointed as NITI Aayog’s CEO in February 2023 for a two-year term.
