Seven buses and three cars collide amid poor visibility

At least four people were killed and 25 others injured in a massive multi-vehicle collision on the Delhi–Agra stretch of the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura on Tuesday morning, after dense fog severely reduced visibility, officials said.

The accident occurred when seven buses and three cars rammed into one another in heavy fog, triggering a pile-up. Several vehicles caught fire following the collision, leading to panic among passengers.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar said poor visibility was the primary cause of the crash. “As you can see, it is still foggy here. Due to poor visibility, around seven buses and three small cars collided with each other. Some vehicles also caught fire after the accident,” he said.

Emergency response teams, including the fire brigade, local police, and district administration, rushed to the scene immediately after receiving information about the crash. According to officials, the rescue and search operation is nearly complete.

“So far, four deaths have been confirmed. Around 25 injured persons have been admitted to the hospital. None of them are seriously injured, and all are receiving treatment,” the SSP said, adding that arrangements were being made to transport stranded passengers to their homes using government vehicles.

Mathura District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh termed the incident “very unfortunate” and said relief operations were the administration’s top priority.

“We have recovered the bodies of the four deceased. More than 12 fire tenders and over 14 ambulances were deployed immediately. The injured have been admitted to CHC Baldev and the District Hospital and are reported to be out of danger,” Singh told reporters.

He said while the cause of the accident would be investigated later, the focus remained on relief work and medical care. “There is heavy fog and extremely low visibility. The cause will be examined later. Right now, our priority is rescue, treatment, and safe transportation of passengers,” he added.

The Mathura accident comes a day after a similar fog-related pile-up on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, where around 20 vehicles were involved, killing four people, including two police personnel, and injuring several others.
