Probe launched into document forgery network
Fourteen Bangladeshi nationals, including four women and four minors, were apprehended by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Jalpaiguri Road station in West Bengal while travelling on the Delhi-bound Northeast Express, officials said.
The individuals were found carrying Aadhaar cards that appeared to be forged, prompting authorities to launch a detailed investigation into the authenticity of the documents and the network behind them.
RPF Inspector Biplab Dutta said the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs during routine train checks.
“…based on source information, our RPF staff identified several suspected individuals while inspecting trains… Upon verifying their Aadhaar cards, the documents appeared to be fake…” Dutta said.
“Acting on this, we took action regarding 5 men, 5 women, and 4 children. They are all residents of Bangladesh… We recovered fake Aadhaar cards and Malaysian currency… They stated they were travelling to Kashmir for work…” he added.
Officials said further verification is underway to determine whether the documents were fabricated or obtained through illegal channels.
In a related development, the Foreigners Cell of Delhi Police recently detained 10 Bangladeshi nationals in a crackdown on illegal immigration. The individuals were allegedly using fake medical visa arrangements, and deportation proceedings have been initiated.
Authorities said the drive is part of a broader effort to identify and act against illegal foreign nationals residing in India without valid documentation.
