‘Seizing’ Raja, wanted in TN BSP Chief Armstrong’s murder case, killed in encounter by Chennai Police
A gangster wanted in connection with the murder of Tamil Nadu BSP president K Armstrong was shot dead in a police encounter in Chennai early Monday morning. The notorious criminal, known as “Seizing” Raja, was apprehended in Andhra Pradesh before the encounter took place in Neelankarai, Tamil Nadu.
According to the Greater Chennai Police, Raja attacked officers upon their arrival, prompting them to return fire, which ultimately resulted in his death. Raja was a key suspect in the murder of K Armstrong, who was killed on July 5 and had multiple criminal cases against him, including five other murder charges and several attempted murder cases.
This encounter marks the third such incident involving suspects linked to Armstrong’s murder in recent weeks. On July 14, police shot dead K Thiruvengadam, a prime accused, during an attempted identification of weapons related to Armstrong’s murder. Similarly, on September 18, another gangster, Kakathope Balaji, was killed after he attacked officers during an operation in Vyasarpadi, where he had been hiding.
It may be recalled that after the murder of K Armstrong on July 5 in broad daylight, 32 people, including political leaders, were arrested. There are reports of the involvement of three gangs in the murder and huge money had changed hands for killing Armstrong who was a prominent Dalit leader as well as a practicing advocate in the Madras High Court.
As the situation develops, the focus remains on the balance between law enforcement tactics and the preservation of civil rights in Tamil Nadu.
