Two cases, one question: Is P Chidambaram being let off the hook?
Two Black and White cases:
- Chinese Visa Fraud Case
- Tiruppur Hotel Grab Case
And in both these cases, events are moving in such a way as to exonerate the ‘Evil Genius’ P Chidambaram. This begs the question, “Has he cut a deal with the Modi government?”
CBI’s inexplicable behaviour
In both the above cases, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has avoided mentioning his name, even though he was a key part of the entire scam.
What are these two cases? We at PGurus have listed both in great detail. What is fishy is that while his son and a Chartered Accountant have been named, Chidambaram’s name is pointedly missing!
Let us look at these cases…
Vedanta Group and 265 Chinese visas
The first case is the illegal extension of 265 Chinese Visas to engineers for Vedanta’s power company when Chidambaram was the Home Minister. The CBI only named Karti and his family, along with Chartered Accountant Bhaskararaman, as accused for accepting Rs.50 lakh from Vedanta. The interesting fact here is that while the company’s officials are also accused, the Chairman’s name, Anil Agarwal, has been left out! This gives one the impression that there is indeed a Washing Machine for Corporates and Money bags too at the BJP![1]
Chidambaram and Vedanta Anil Agarwal are good friends, and Chidambaram was Director of Vedanta International up to May 2004, till he became Finance Minister. As Home Minister, Chidambaram helped Anil Agarwal illegally extend 265 Chinese Visas and Rs.50 lakh was transferred as a bribe to son Karti’s firms.
Ask yourself this question… Why was this money given to Karti? He was not even a Member of Parliament then! Then why did the CBI avoid Chidambaram and make only his son the accused? This will definitely help Karti to escape from the case during the trial stage! We have seen many cases of corruption falling flat in courts during the Modi regime due to weak prosecution. Is it all stage-managed? If yes, who is facilitating all these things? More on this later.
Tiruppur hotel grabbing case
The second case is the hotel grabbing case. The CBI has not yet registered the case against Chidambaram or, at least, his wife Nalini, who was the main conspirator in grabbing a hotel by misusing the power when her husband was the Finance Minister. The Delhi High Court has asked the CBI many times why the agency is not registering a case.[2]
In this case, the hotel’s first owner, Dr. Kathirvel, has produced documents on Nalini’s role. It describes in detail how his hotel was grabbed by Nalini and her sister Padmini (since deceased) using the Indian Overseas Bank and declared the business of Kathirvel as a non-performing asset (NPA) and illegally conducted an auction to hand over the hotel Comfort Inn in Tiruppur to Padmini. Kathirvel has produced all documents exposing the role of Nalini by misusing husband Chidambaram’s position as the Finance Minister to handle the bank. Kathirvel’s advocate, Yatinder Chaudhary, has produced Nalini’s conversation and compensation cheques in the court and CBI. Why is the CBI dragging its feet?
Many a time, the Delhi High Court has ordered the CBI to register a case in the hotel grabbing case, and the CBI has not yet done so. Why? Who is restraining them from doing their job?
Chidambaram and the BJP
It is a well-known fact that former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was saving his buddy Chidambaram till his death in August 2019. A few days after the death of Jaitley, Chidambaram was arrested in the INX-Media bribery case and jailed for more than 100 days. Furthermore, Chidambaram and his son Karti are accused in CBI and ED cases of the Aircel Maxis scam and INX-Media bribery. His wife, Nalini, is accused of the Sarada scam. In all these cases, the trial is moving at a snail’s pace, and the prosecution is very lethargic.

PC’s protector
Who is protecting Chidambaram, and why was he not accused by the CBI in the Chinese visa bribery case, and why did the CBI not register a case in the hotel grabbing case? Has Chidambaram cut a deal, and with whom in the Modi government is the real question.

It is well known that Amit Shah won’t give the time of day to Chidambaram. And Modi is busy solving the problems of the world. Then who is it that is facilitating all this, directing the CBI to go slow or not at all?

This corrupt IAS officer has been named in a court in Salem for bribery and has somehow managed to curry favor with the BJP and remains a key cog in the PMO wheel. A History major who has occupied positions of high power in banking continues to serve even after retirement.
Eleven years into governance, the Modi government has yet to send any one of the Opposition leaders to jail. Does this mean there are skeletons in the cupboard? Is it time to look past the current leadership?
