Trump calls for Israel to strike Iran’s nuclear sites; slams Biden’s stance amid rising tensions

In a bold statement, former President Donald Trump advised Israel to target Iran’s nuclear facilities directly in response to a recent missile barrage from the Islamic Republic. Speaking at a campaign event in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Trump criticized current President Joe Biden’s approach to the situation.

During the town hall, Trump referenced a question posed to Biden earlier this week regarding potential military action against Iran. Biden had responded with a firm “no” when asked if he would support strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites. “They asked him, what do you think about Iran, would you hit Iran? And he goes, ‘As long as they don’t hit the nuclear stuff.’ That’s the thing you want to hit, right?” Trump remarked, emphasizing the importance of preemptive action.

Biden was asked on Wednesday whether he would support strikes against Iranian nuclear sites and the US president told reporters: “The answer is no.”

Trump elaborated, “I think he’s got that one wrong. Isn’t that what you’re supposed to hit? I mean, it’s the biggest risk we have, nuclear weapons.” He further asserted, “When they asked him that question, the answer should have been, hit the nuclear first, and worry about the rest later.”

The former president’s comments come in the wake of nearly 200 missiles fired from Iran toward Israel, heightening tensions in an already volatile region.

Biden on Wednesday expressed his opposition to such strikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities, in response to the firing of nearly 200 Iranian missiles toward Israel. “We’ll be discussing with the Israelis what they’re going to do,” he said, adding that all G7 members agree Israel has “a right to respond, but they should respond in proportion.”

Trump, who is locked in a fierce election battle with Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential race, has largely refrained from addressing the recent escalation in the Middle East. However, he did issue a scathing statement this week, blaming Biden and Harris for contributing to the crisis.
