Trump says US ‘not concerned’ about Iran returning to talks after negotiations fail

Donald Trump said the United States is not concerned about whether Iran returns to negotiations, following the collapse of recent talks between the two countries.

Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Trump said, “I don’t care if they come back or not. If they don’t come back, I’m fine,” signalling a hardened stance after diplomatic efforts failed to produce a breakthrough.

The remarks came after discussions held in Islamabad ended without agreement. The US subsequently announced a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports and coastal areas.

Trump also said Iran’s military capabilities had been significantly weakened, including its ability to produce missiles and drones. He further accused Tehran of not fulfilling its commitments related to the Strait of Hormuz, adding that the US would ensure the waterway remains accessible.

Talks end without agreement

The negotiations in Islamabad lasted over 20 hours but failed to resolve key differences. The US delegation, led by JD Vance, said no consensus could be reached despite what was described as a “final” offer from Washington, including demands for assurances that Iran would not pursue nuclear weapons.

Iranian officials, meanwhile, attributed the breakdown to what they described as unrealistic US expectations and called for a more balanced approach to reach an agreement.

Blockade raises regional concerns

Following the failed talks, the US announced a naval blockade of Iranian ports, a move that could heighten tensions across the region. Analysts warn the development may disrupt global supply chains and add pressure to energy markets already affected by the ongoing conflict.
