A major action against tax evasion by the IT department, raids underway in Tamil Nadu and Telangana
In a massive crackdown, the Income Tax raids are underway at Kanchipuram, at the premises linked to DMK MP S Jagathrakshakan in Tamil Nadu and properties related to BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath in Telangana.
According to sources, simultaneous raids are being conducted in 40 locations, including educational institutions and commercial establishments, across the state.
After the BJP had accused the top DMK leaders of helping the G Square Real Estate Company which registered an exponential growth during the party’s rule, the I-T sleuths had raided the firm last April.
The present raids are being conducted with regard to the same, as per the sources.
Raids are being carried out at a hotel in T Nagar locality of Chennai linked to the Member of Parliament and residences of DMK MP S Jagathrakshakan’s relatives in Pallavaram and Chromepet.
The house and office of the MP from Arakkonam constituency in Chennai’s Adyar area is also being searched. The Income Tax Department officials also carried out a raid at a private hospital near Poonamallee in Chennai.
While in Telangana, the searches are underway in various parts of Hyderabad, including the Jubilee Hills and MLA’s residences and offices in Kukatpally, Gachibowli, and other areas.
The nature and purpose of these searches have not been officially disclosed as of yet. Income Tax authorities are examining financial records, documents, and other assets linked to the Jubilee Hills MLA.
Searches have drawn attention and sparked speculation about possible irregularities or financial discrepancies.
