India hits out at US Rep. Ilhan Omar for visiting PoK
India has slammed US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar‘s visit to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Thursday. US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar went to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Wednesday.
India strongly condemned her visit, at a briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that New Delhi has taken note of her visit to a part of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir which is currently occupied by Pakistan illegally.
“She visited a part of J&K currently illegally occupied by Pakistan. If such a politician wishes to practice her narrow-minded politics at home, that may be her business, but violating our territorial integrity in its pursuit makes this ours condemnable,” Bagchi said while briefing the media.
Omar, a member of the US House of Representatives, is on a five-day visit to Pakistan. Omar had taken an anti-India stance earlier. Ilhan Omar criticized Indian journalist Aarti Tikoo Singh for defending India’s actions in Kashmir and found herself in the midst of a backlash from netizens. Omar who is known for peddling the Islamist narratives often directed against the Narendra Modi dispensation is known for anti-semite in the US.
She also has a meeting with former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
She met President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and discussed a range of issues pertaining to bilateral, regional, and global issues.
Both Alvi and Sharif also briefed her about domestic affairs and during their meeting, highlighted the issues of Jammu & Kashmir and stressed the peaceful resolution of the dispute.
The meeting took place just weeks after Khan claimed that the fall of his government in Pakistan was the result of a US conspiracy.
