India officially began its journey towards hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games as Glasgow handed over the Commonwealth Games flag and ceremonial baton during a colourful closing ceremony on Sunday.
Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President P.T. Usha, and Gujarat Sports Minister Harsh Sanghavi received the flag on behalf of India, symbolising the formal transfer of hosting responsibilities to Ahmedabad, which will stage the centenary edition of the Games in 2030.

The ceremonial handover marked the conclusion of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the beginning of India’s preparations for hosting one of the world’s biggest multi-sport events.

The closing ceremony also celebrated India’s strong performance in Glasgow, where the contingent finished among the leading nations in the medal standings before turning its attention to hosting duties.
