Pakistani BAT infiltration attempt fails in Uri

In the first major provocation by the Pakistani army since India’s Operation Sindoor in May 2025, a Pakistani Border Action Team (BAT), comprising terrorist infiltrators backed by Pakistani military personnel, attempted to infiltrate Indian territory along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir last night.

The Indian Army successfully thwarted the incursion in a fierce firefight, forcing the intruders to retreat across the LoC. Tragically, one Indian soldier was killed in action during the intense exchange.

The infiltration attempt occurred in the general area of Uri, a strategically sensitive sector along the LoC, under the cover of darkness and adverse weather conditions, including heavy rain and low visibility, which the intruders likely exploited to conceal their movements.

According to preliminary reports, the BAT unit, a specialized group known for conducting cross-border raids, targeted a forward Indian post, aiming to breach the LoC and potentially carry out a disruptive attack.

Alert Indian troops detected the suspicious movement through their robust surveillance grid and engaged the infiltrators in a high-intensity firefight.

The exchange of fire lasted longer, with the Indian Army maintaining a strong defensive posture. The adverse weather conditions, while aiding the infiltrators’ initial approach, also complicated their retreat, allowing Indian forces to pursue and chase the group back across the LoC.

During the intense firefight, one Indian soldier, Havildar Ankit Kumar, made the supreme sacrifice while defending the nation’s borders. However, the Indian Army is yet to make any official statement on the matter.

According to the highly placed sources, no infiltrators succeeded in crossing into Indian territory, and the operation was successfully repelled. While there are no confirmed reports of casualties on the Pakistani side, sources indicate that the BAT unit likely suffered losses during the encounter.

Since the ceasefire agreement following Operation Sindoor, the LoC has remained volatile, with Indian security forces reporting a surge in infiltration attempts and drone activities. The Uri incident underscores Pakistan’s continued reliance on BAT units to provoke India, despite the significant losses incurred during Operation Sindoor.
