Abu Sakhil’s death marks the latest target in Israeli operations on militant leaders
Israel’s military, alongside the Shin Bet internal security agency, has confirmed the death of Muhammad Abu Sakhil, the head of operations for the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad, in a targeted airstrike in the Gaza Strip.
In a joint statement released on Saturday, Israeli officials stated that Abu Sakhil was killed in “a precise strike” by the Israeli Air Force.
The operation targeted a command-and-control center located within a compound that once housed the Fahd Al-Sabah School in northern Gaza.
Described as a key figure in Islamic Jihad, Abu Sakhil was allegedly responsible for coordinating numerous militant activities, including joint operations with Hamas against both Israeli civilians and military personnel in Gaza. The Israeli security forces emphasized his significant role in planning attacks that have threatened both Israeli soldiers and civilians.
Islamic Jihad, a major militant group founded in 1981, operates predominantly in the Gaza Strip and is considered the second-largest armed faction in the region after Hamas. The group has long been a rival of Hamas, despite occasionally collaborating on joint attacks against Israel.
The death of Abu Sakhil is the latest in a series of Israeli operations targeting high-ranking members of militant organizations in Gaza as part of its ongoing security efforts.
