JK Police bus ambushed in a repeat of Pulwama type terror attack

In a provocative ‘act of terror‘ at least three terrorists belonging to a lesser-known outfit Kashmir Tiger, an offshoot of Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammad, ambushed a police bus in a fortified area of Zewan near Pantha Chowk on the outskirts of Srinagar in which two Jammu and Kashmir police personnel were martyred while 12 others received bullet injuries late Monday evening.

The terrorist strike on the police party came close on the heels of an encounter in the Rangreth area of Srinagar in which two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were neutralized by the security forces on Monday. According to a police spokesman, one of the slain terrorists is believed to be a Pakistani while the second one has been identified as an “A” category terrorist Aadil Ahmad Wani of Shopian.

Reacting to the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi late Monday evening sought details on the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. He has also expressed condolences to the families of those security personnel who have been martyred in the attack.

The dastardly terror attack, however, brought back the memories of the Pulwama terror attack which took on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway on February 14, 2019, in which 40 CRPF personnel attained martyrdom.

The attack also coincided with the 20th anniversary of another audacious terror strike on the temple of democracy-the Parliament of India in 2001.

According to Dilbagh Singh, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, “the police personnel belonging to the 9th battalion of J&K Armed police were returning to their battalion headquarters in Zewan when their bus was targeted by the terrorists”.

Singh said a total number of 14 police personnel were injured in the attack. Out of these 2 of them succumbed to their injuries in the hospital while others were undergoing treatment”.

The attack on a police bus also raised many eyebrows as several other vital installations including offices of BSF, CRPF, JKP officials are located along with a police hospital in the area. Regular convoy movement takes place along the route and the same was a highly secured zone due to the presence of many security personnel in and around vital installations.

According to a police statement, “three terrorists had fired indiscriminately upon a police vehicle carrying police personnel of 9th Battalion near Zewan Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar. The said police party was coming back to their campus after finishing their duties. Although the fire was retaliated however taking advantage of darkness the terrorists managed to escape from the spot. In this terror incident, 14 police personnel were injured and were shifted to the hospital for treatment. Among the injured personnel, ASI Ghulam Hassan & Sgt Safique Ali succumbed to their injuries and attained martyrdom, whereas the condition of other injured personnel is stated to be stable.

IGP Kashmir on behalf of Police Parivar has paid rich tributes to these martyrs, who laid down their lives in the line of duty. He further said that credible sources revealed that the attack was carried by Kashmir Tigers, an offshoot of JeM. In the retaliatory firing, one of the terrorists got injured and the group involved in this gruesome terrorist attack will be soon brought to justice.

366 terrorists killed since the abrogation of Article 370 in J&K

After the Abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, a total number of 366 terrorists have been neutralized by security forces while 96 civilians have been killed in Kashmir during the same period.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said a total of 96 civilians, 81 security forces personnel, and 366 personnel were killed in Kashmir since the repeal of Article 370 till this November.

The Minister also said that “no Kashmiri Pandit/ Hindu has been displaced from the valley” post the repeal of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.

“However, recently some Kashmiri Pandit families, mostly women, and children, living in Kashmir have moved to the Jammu region.

“These families are of the government employees, many of whom move to Jammu in winter as part of the movement of officials and the winter vacation in educational institutions,” the minister stated.

  1. This incident means there are some informers working for terrorist / terror organization. It will take some time to build an intelligence network and increased surveillance. NOT to lose heart on these desperate attacks, with every passing day, security forces are getting best of equipment thanks to BJP govt. It is question of time that the network elements will soon be eliminated. The more they get desperate, good for India, evach one will be exposed. The more shrill cries from Farooq & Mufti Saeed, the more the helplessness of terror organizations.
Some brave hearts dying is inevitable, their sacrifices will not go in vain. Time to hold on our senses & fight back.
