The Indian Army on Wednesday suffered heavy losses in one of the fiercest gun battles with a group of terrorists hiding inside their safe hideouts in the Solki forest area of Kalakote, Rajouri district.

So far two Amy captains and one havaldar have attained martyrdom while another senior officer was undergoing treatment at the Udhampur-based Command Hospital after receiving bullet injuries on his chest.

One Army captain and havaldar were part of the special forces team while another captain belonged to the 63 Rashtriya Rifles (Signals).

After suffering massive collateral damage additional reinforcements were rushed to the encounter site in Rajouri to neutralize terrorists immediately.

Unconfirmed reports suggested one terrorist also received injuries during a day-long firing.

The field commanders also recalibrated their strategy to prevent further loss of lives.

Till the time of filing the report late Wednesday evening, the operation was still in progress.

Nagrota-based White Knight Corps posted a brief statement on X (earlier Twitter) late evening. The statement read, “Based on specific intelligence Joint Operations launched in Kalakote Area, Gulabgarh forest Rajouri, district on 19 Nov 23 contact was established on 22 Nov and an intense firefight ensued. The terrorists have been injured and surrounded and operations are in progress, amidst acts of valor and sacrifice by their own bravehearts in trying to prevent collateral damage to women and children in the highest traditions of IndianArmy. Whiteknightcorps salutes the supreme sacrifice”.

According to official sources, the security forces were plugging all the escape routes to prevent these terrorists from fleeing. The operation was launched in the area based on reports about the presence of terrorists.

The suspected movement of a group of terrorists, earlier, came on the radar of the security agencies when they were seen eating meals at one of the village houses in the densely forested area. After the initial exchange of firing one Army officer attained martyrdom. During the day-long gunfight, two other soldiers including one captain and havaldar were also killed in action. The security forces have deployed modern gadgets including drones to pinpoint the exact location of the hiding terrorists.
