SIT produced the accused before a local court and is now remanded in custody

On Thursday the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the Kallakurichi student death case arrested a 48-year-old, R Latchathipathi who is a resident of Mamandur near Chinna Salem district in Kallakurichi.

The accused has been arrested for allegedly burning the certificates of students during the rioting and large-scale violence that broke out on the premises of the Sakthi Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Kaniymoor near Chinna Salem in the district on July 17.

The SIT said that the accused was produced before a local court and remanded in custody on Thursday. Sources said that the accused was absconding ever since the incident. SIT team found the CCTV footage while investigating the protests that followed the Kallakurichi girl death case.

Earlier, Kaniyamoor Sakthi matriculation School secretary Shanthi, principal Shiva Sankaran, school correspondent Ravikumar, and two teachers were arrested in connection with the death of a 17-year-old school girl in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu.

The class 12 student reportedly died of suicide on July 12 on the school premises. A suicide note recovered alleged that two teachers of the school had harassed and tortured her, compelling her to commit suicide. The family had also alleged that the management had something to do with her suicide.

On July 17, violence broke out on the school premises after a large number of locals and outsiders broke the barricades placed near the institution and stormed the campus following the death.
