Ranaut says Centre-backed schemes must reach beneficiaries, not remain on paper

BJP MP Kangana Ranaut came down heavily on government officials during a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, questioning delays in development projects and the implementation of Centre-sponsored schemes.

While reviewing ongoing works and government schemes in her constituency, Ranaut stressed that public funds must be used properly and that benefits should reach the people they are intended for. She also called for closer monitoring of projects and greater accountability among officials.

Ranaut alleged that a significant portion of public money could be ending up in the wrong hands and said stronger oversight was needed to prevent misuse of government funds.

“The public money should not go into the wrong hands,” she said while stressing that negligence and irregularities in the execution of government schemes could not be ignored.

‘Get the job done’

The BJP MP expressed particular frustration over projects that she said had remained pending for more than a year. Referring to an allocation of ₹11 crore for development works in her constituency, she questioned why the money had not translated into completed projects.

She told officials that discussions about addressing long-pending issues were no longer enough and demanded that the work be completed and reported back to her.

Ranaut also questioned the work ethic of officials, asking what she should tell the media and people of her constituency when development projects remain incomplete.

Her remarks included a sharp description of officials as “lazy” and “incompetent”, reflecting her anger over what she viewed as poor implementation and delays.

Focus on villages and beneficiaries

Ranaut said Centre-sponsored schemes should not remain restricted to paperwork and official files. According to her, the ultimate objective should be to ensure that government programmes actually benefit people in villages and those who need assistance.

She also directed officials to monitor the quality and progress of development works, ensure proper utilisation of funds and complete projects within stipulated timelines.

The Mandi MP has previously raised concerns over the functioning of officials during DISHA meetings. In October 2025, she had warned officials against treating the review process casually and urged them to take development-related work more seriously.

Her latest confrontation has once again brought attention to the issues of bureaucratic accountability, implementation of government schemes and the utilisation of public funds in Mandi.
