Kerala Devaswom Minister insults holy water of Sabrimala
Kerala Devasom Minister K Radhakrishnan has sparked rage amongst the people for treating the holy water of the famed and holy Sabarimala temple as a hand sanitizer.
On Monday, K Radhakrishnan was on a visit to the holy Sabrimala temple along with Travancore Devasom Board president Ananthagopan and local legislator Pramod Narayanan. He was there along with others to attend a temple function during which the priests opens the temple to prepare for welcoming devotees for the new fresh season, the next day.
The ‘holy water’ is poured on the palms of the people who consume it a bit and smear the rest over their head in reverence, as per the faith and custom followed.
With press photographers and around a dozen of TV channel cameras waiting to capture these moments, Radhakrishnan was caught using the holy water like a sanitizer. However, senior CPI-M leader Ananthagopan did what any devout Hindu would do, so did Narayan, a member of the Kerala Congress(M).
The act is now viral on social media. This has irked people with many accusing the Minister of “disrespecting” the holy water.
The Devaswom board is a socio-religious trust whose members are nominated by both government and the community. They oversee Hindu temples and their assets to ensure their smooth operation in accordance with traditional rituals and customs.
