Explosions visible for kilometres as police, fire teams rush to the scene
A major fire broke out on Tuesday night after a truck carrying LPG cylinders collided with a tanker on the Jaipur–Ajmer highway, leading to a series of powerful explosions that sent shockwaves across the area, police said.
The collision caused several LPG cylinders to explode, with some hurled several meters away from the crash site. Eyewitnesses reported hearing loud blasts and seeing flames visible from several kilometers.
Inspector General (IG) Jaipur, Rahul Prakash, said that two to three people, including the tanker driver, were injured in the incident.
Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Jaipur-I Dr. Ravi Shekhawat, confirmed that the injured driver of the tanker was taken to a nearby hospital for initial treatment.
Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa, who reached the site on Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s directions, told reporters that the situation was under control and that no fatalities had been reported so far.
Police officers, firefighters, and emergency responders rushed to the Dudu area, where the crash occurred, and halted traffic along the busy highway as a precaution.
“There is no information on casualties yet, but the drivers and cleaners of both vehicles are missing. Search operations are underway,” said Bairwa.
Dr. Shekhawat added that emergency arrangements have been made at Jaipur’s SMS Hospital, though no injured persons have been brought there yet.
Eyewitness Vinod said the LPG truck was parked outside a roadside hotel, and the driver had gone for dinner when a tanker rammed into it from behind. “The impact caused the fire and explosions. The tanker driver was injured and taken to a local hospital,” he said.
The incident has drawn comparisons to a similar tragedy in December last year, when an LPG tanker collided with a truck near Bhankrota on the same highway, sparking an inferno that claimed 19 lives.
