Missiles and drones reportedly launched from the direction of Iran struck near an airport in the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan on Thursday, according to a source close to the Azerbaijan government cited by Reuters.
The projectiles fell within the territory of Nakhchivan International Airport, triggering a fire in the area, the source said. An official statement from Azerbaijani authorities was expected to follow. It was not immediately clear how many missiles or drones had struck the vicinity.
Video shared by Israeli media appeared to show an explosion near a parking area close to the airport, which lies roughly 10 kilometres from the Iranian border.
Footage obtained by Reuters also showed thick black smoke rising near the airport terminal. The report added that a second drone landed near a school in the surrounding area.
