Dalit woman’s autopsy suggests strangulation

In a shocking turn of events, the body of the Dalit woman who went missing for the past two months was found on the property of a former minister in the then Akhilesh Yadav government.

The woman’s body was recovered when the Sadar Kotwali Police SWAT team reached the spot and dug out the body — buried four feet under the ground. There was an uproar after the family members were informed about the body.

Police recovered her decomposed body near an ashram owned by the son of late Fateh Bahadur Singh (SP leader), a former Uttar Pradesh minister. The autopsy revealed that she was strangulated. The post-mortem report also showed that her neck was broken.

The victim was a resident of Kanshiram, Sadar Kotwali of Unnao, and had been missing since December. A missing complaint was lodged on December 8. The mother of the missing victim-blamed Fateh Bahadur Singh’s son for her disappearance.

The woman’s mother said, “My daughter was killed by Rajol Singh in his ashram and buried there. I had gone to the ashram earlier. They showed us the whole premises, except the three-storey building. I had called a local police officer, but he switched his phone off. If he had come, I would have found my daughter alive.”

On January 25, the woman’s mother had tried to immolate herself in front of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s vehicle in Lucknow. Earlier, on January 24, Rajol Singh, the son of Fateh Bahadur Singh was arrested in connection with the alleged kidnapping of the woman.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police, Unnao, Shashi Shekhar Singh, on December 8, 2021, a missing complaint was filed after which an FIR was lodged on January 10 as per the rules. One person was arrested and the investigation is in progress. Based on the probe findings, the body was recovered. The decomposed body was found wrapped in a blanket and dumped in a septic tank.
