Dear Kashmiri Pandits,

As I sit on my very expensive sofa, watching my 72” television with my family, while the servants scurry to get me and the family whatever we need, I wonder why the Kashmiri Pandits can’t help themselves! Hold on for a second! I need to ask the servant to bring my slippers as I need to go to the bathroom!

I have had a long day at work with the crazy traffic! The driver took his own time getting me to work! I was supposed to attend a meeting but had to do so over the cell phone! I missed the breakfast that was served! Fortunately, my secretary had put aside my order and I ate it when I reached the office. It was cold, though!!

I have heard too many people talk about how the Kashmiri women were raped and their men were killed! How people never helped them! Big deal! People never helped in any situation, be it the Kashmir issue or any other issue! Haven’t you realized Hindus are just about non-violence? Except, when it comes to our family, that’s when we expect THE ENTIRE neighborhood to come to our rescue!!!

Learn to defend yourselves! This is what one person said. He’s right! People in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, or for that matter, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka need a visa to go to Kashmir. We then have to go through immigration and the other formalities that one goes through when going abroad. The bigger issue is the food, and WE LOVE OUR FOOD!! How would I make do without my daily dose of Sambar, rice, and curry? Do they eat the same thing there? No way!! It can’t be!! My mom doesn’t cook in Kashmir! In fact, she hasn’t ever stepped out of my city!! Oh, I see what you mean!! Well, the food that I’m used, to has to have spices (the spicier, the better) and chillie powder (again, the more the better). I don’t get that in Kashmir! I do?

I’m not used to sleeping in dingy hotel rooms that are cockroach infested! The people there don’t get to sleep? What do you mean? Oh, they can’t sleep because they’re scared! So, why stay in a state where people are scared!! Would I move if my neighborhood got violent, you ask? Never gonna happen, baby!! NEVER!! My neighborhood has got maybe (MAYBE) one or two families that are not Hindu! They’re the most peaceful people one can find! They drop by at all our festivals and wish us! Yeah, they do have a lot of relatives that drop by during their festivals, and yeah, they do keep asking if anyone in the neighborhood wants to sell their property, but no big deal!! They’re very nice people and are so accommodating! They actually helped their neighbors move! I mean, yeah, one of their relatives moved into that house, but no big deal! My neighborhood is one of the most peaceful areas (no pun intended)! I have no problems with the 37 kids in those two houses! I mean, yeah, they do have their quirks like wearing the cap when they come over, asking about how my family remembers which god is for what, and other stuff but it’s more out of jest than anything serious! I mean, they’re laughing when they ask me these questions!

Kashmiri Pandits should stop making such a big deal about the “pathetic” situation they claim to be in. How pathetic can it be if they want to go back there?? After all, how many people do you know that want to move back to their old neighborhood when the situation was bad, to begin with? None, nada, zilch! So, if someone is yearning to go back there, it must be nice and not as bad as one portrays it.

To all those Kashmiri Pandits, you need to face the truth! All y’all have to learn is that all y’all can defend yourselves by doing your own work! Hold on while my servant gets me a glass from the table about 20 feet away from me! Anyways, as I was saying, it’s important that you learn to do your own work and defend yourselves and your family! Damn, the night shift watchman is not here as yet! I guess the day shift guy has to stay till the other guy comes in!

  1. I am sure you own a gun ( with license) and will protect yourself when the looting starts in your hometown.
Can’t say the same for an impecunious Pandit in Kashmir.
