Omar Abdullah Weds Nidhi Razdan as NC Rebels Close In
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday took the wind out of disgruntled party legislators’ sails by posting images from his marriage ceremony with senior journalist Nidhi Razdan.
In a post on X, Abdullah wrote, “A new journey began yesterday,” tagging Razdan and sharing photographs of the couple in traditional attire. Razdan responded on the platform with the caption “It’s done bro.”

According to media reports citing sources, the marriage was solemnised under the Special Marriage Act in New Delhi on Friday, October 30, with family members from both sides serving as witnesses.
Wedding functions were held in both Srinagar and New Delhi and attended by close relatives. Abdullah’s parents, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and Mollie Abdullah, along with his three sisters, and Razdan’s parents, veteran journalist M.K. Razdan and Sarla Razdan, were among those present.
This is the second marriage for both. Abdullah’s marriage to his first wife, Payal, was dissolved by an order of the Supreme Court in July this year after the couple reached a settlement.
Razdan, a former NDTV anchor known for programmes such as Left, Right & Centre, was previously married.
Internal turbulence in the ruling National Conference
The personal announcement came a day after significant internal turbulence in the ruling National Conference.
On Friday, a group of disgruntled party legislators, including one Independent, met at the residence of Lolab MLA Qaiser Jamsheed Lone in Srinagar. The gathering, which lasted several hours, was held against the backdrop of the recent cabinet expansion that left several senior leaders out of the ministry.
Participants reportedly discussed grievances over the reshuffle, “coterie culture,” lack of consultation, and representation issues. Sources said they prepared a list of demands for the party high command, including the replacement of ministers who have completed two years in office, the removal of Chief Minister’s Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and certain other functionaries, and greater transparency in decision-making.
Party leaders, including Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, later sought to downplay the meeting as a friendly lunch, while the leadership has denied any formal revolt.
Adding to the top brass’s woes, Srinagar Member of Parliament Aga Ruhullah Mehdi on Saturday reiterated that he would resign from the National Conference as well as his Lok Sabha membership on November 3—the death anniversary of his father, Aga Syed Mehdi. Mehdi has accused the party leadership of failing to honour election commitments, particularly on the restoration of Article 370 and related issues, and of treating Jammu and Kashmir as a “family estate.”
The National Conference has maintained that internal grievances will be addressed through dialogue and that there is no rebellion within the ranks.
