Delhi HC junks PIL for Arvind Kejriwal’s bail saying ‘law is equal for everyone‘; slaps Rs.75,000 fine on the petitioner
The Delhi High Court dismissed a PIL seeking extraordinary interim bail for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in all criminal cases.
The Delhi HC not only dismissed the plea but also slapped a fine of Rs.75,000 on the petitioner.
The bench, led by the Acting Chief Justice of Delhi, stated in the order that this court cannot grant extraordinary interim bail in a pending criminal case against a person holding high office.
The court stated that someone is in custody due to a court order. The challenge is currently before the Supreme Court. The law applies equally to everyone.
The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has extended Kejriwal’s detention until April 23, and he is placed in Tihar jail.
On April 9, the high court rejected Kejriwal’s request to challenge his arrest by the investigation agency, stating that his arrest was legal because he had repeatedly ignored the summons.
Another plea has been filed challenging the nine summonses issued by the ED in relation to the money laundering case linked to the nullified excise policy. Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain will preside over the hearing of these petitions.
