    PM Modi calls Netanyahu “friend” as leaders reaffirm counter-terror resolve

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with the two leaders reaffirming their shared resolve to fight terrorism with greater determination and discussing ways to further strengthen the India-Israel strategic partnership.

    In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi said he conveyed New Year greetings to Netanyahu and the people of Israel, describing the Israeli leader as his “friend”. He said the conversation focused on advancing bilateral cooperation across key sectors of mutual interest.

    “We also exchanged views on the regional situation and reaffirmed our shared resolve to fight terrorism with greater determination,” the Prime Minister said.

    This marks the first direct conversation between Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Netanyahu since the beginning of 2026.

    According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu initiated the phone call and briefed Modi on the implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan. The leaders also discussed regional security developments amid ongoing tensions in West Asia.

    India and Israel share close strategic ties, particularly in the areas of defence, counter-terrorism, technology, agriculture and innovation, and have consistently underscored cooperation against global terrorism.
