PM Narendra Modi Honored with Bhutan’s Highest Civilian Award

This new award has added to PM Modi's long list of awards from various nations

PM Modi conferred with Highest Civilian Award by Bhutan

On Friday, Bhutan conferred its highest civilian award ‘Ngadag Pel gi Khorlo’ on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the country’s National Day.

India is the largest trade and development partner of Bhutan and has extended its assistance to several developmental projects in Bhutan. India and Bhutan share a beneficial economic inter-linkage between them and have important bilateral relations.

Bhutan was the first country to receive the COVID-19 vaccines, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII). In January, the country received the first consignment of 1.5 lakh doses of the Covishield vaccine from India as a gift.

The Prime Minister of Bhutan Lotay Tshering tweeted, “Overjoyed to hear His Majesty pronounce Your Excellency Modiji’s @narendramodi name Narendra for the highest civilian decoration, Order of the Druk Gyalpo.

While the Prime Minister’s Office of Bhutan said in a statement on Facebook, “Much deserving! Congratulations from the people of Bhutan. In all interactions, seen Your Excellency as a great, spiritual human being. Looking forward to celebrating the honor in person.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received the Highest Civilian Award from many other countries like the Order of Abdulaziz Al Saud (the highest honor of Saudi Arabia awarded to non-muslim dignitaries), the State Order of Ghazi Amir Amanullah Khan (highest civilian honor of Afghanistan), the Grand Collar of the State of Palestine Award (the highest honor of Palestine awarded to foreign dignitaries), Order of Zayed Award (highest civilian honor of the United Arab Emirates), Order of St. Andrew Award (highest civilian honor of Russia) and the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Nishan Izzuddin (the highest honour of the Maldives awarded to foreign dignitaries).

He was honoured with King Hamad Order of the Renaissance (the Bahrain Order – First Class is a top honour by the gulf country) in 2019. The US has also conferred the Legion of Merit by the US Government (award of the United States Armed Forces that is given for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements) to PM Narendra Modi in 2020.
