PM targets LDF, UDF; says countdown for regime change has begun ahead of April 9 polls
Narendra Modi on Saturday said that ensuring the safety of Keralites, especially those working in Gulf countries, remains his top priority, even as he launched a sharp political attack on the ruling Left government in the state.
Addressing a BJP-led NDA rally in Pathanamthitta district, Modi asserted that the “countdown” for the removal of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government has begun and expressed confidence that a BJP-led NDA will form the next government in Kerala.
“Politics and elections will come and go, but my top priority is the safety of brothers and sisters from Kerala in the Gulf,” the Prime Minister said.
NDA pushes for power in Kerala
With elections to 140 Assembly seats scheduled for April 9, Modi said BJP workers have signalled a strong public mood to end Left rule in the state.
He claimed that a “double-engine government” — with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in power both at the Centre and in the state — would accelerate development and remove existing obstacles.
Development, migration key issues
The Prime Minister said Kerala has significant potential but continues to lag behind other states. He alleged that both the LDF and the United Democratic Front (UDF) have neglected rural infrastructure.
Highlighting youth migration as a major concern, Modi said lack of opportunities has forced many young people to leave the state in search of jobs.
He also claimed that the Centre has increased development spending in Kerala compared to previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA) governments.
Attack on opposition, “secret partnership” claim
Modi accused both the LDF and UDF of corruption and communal politics, calling them the biggest hurdles to Kerala’s development.
He alleged that the two alliances have a “secret partnership” and are “two sides of the same coin,” even as they accuse each other of being the BJP’s “B-team.”
“Their fight is like that of WWF,” he remarked.
Focus on Gulf safety, foreign policy
Referring to tensions in West Asia, Modi criticised Congress leaders for statements he said could create distrust among Gulf nations.
He emphasised that the Centre is working to ensure the safety and well-being of Indians, including a large number of Keralites, living in the region.
Sabarimala, policy issues raised
The Prime Minister also accused the LDF and UDF of mishandling issues related to Sabarimala Temple and spreading misinformation on topics such as FCRA, CAA, and films like The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story.
He said that those responsible for alleged irregularities at Sabarimala would be held accountable if the NDA comes to power.
Modi concluded his speech by extending greetings to the people of Kerala on the occasions of Easter and Vishu.
