India’s blunt warning to Pakistan: ‘Unmatched response if provoked’ amid Iran war
Amid escalating tensions in West Asia following the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday issued a strong warning to India’s “neighbour,” signalling a firm and decisive response to any potential provocation.
Addressing a Sainik Samman Sammelan in Kerala, Singh cautioned that the current global situation could embolden hostile actions but asserted that India remains fully prepared.
“Our neighbour, in the current situation, can commit any misadventure. If it does so, India’s action will be unprecedented and decisive,” he said, without naming the country.
His remarks come against the backdrop of heightened geopolitical instability following the Iran war, which began after US-Israel strikes on February 28 triggered retaliatory action from Tehran.

Operation Sindoor not over yet
Referring to India’s military action against Pakistan in 2025, Singh reiterated that Operation Sindoor remains ongoing, underscoring continued vigilance along India’s borders.
The operation was launched after a deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, and involved coordinated strikes targeting terror infrastructure across the border.
India ensuring energy security amid Hormuz tensions
The Defence Minister also addressed concerns surrounding energy supplies as the strategic Strait of Hormuz faces disruptions due to the conflict.
He assured that Indian naval forces are actively escorting oil tankers through the region to ensure safe passage.
“…Some people want to cause panic by spreading lies over this conflict in West Asia. Neither is there a shortage of petrol-diesel in the country, nor a shortage of gas. India is prepared to deal with any energy crisis,” Singh said.
Government prepared to protect Indian citizens abroad
Highlighting concerns for Indian nationals in the Gulf region, Singh emphasised that the government is closely monitoring developments and stands ready to act.
“Today we are all going through a phase of major changes. A major conflict is going on in West Asia… we will not lag behind in taking any steps for the protection and security of our Indian citizens. We are fully prepared for this,” he said.
Opposition criticised over ‘politics during crisis’
Singh also took aim at opposition parties, accusing them of indulging in political rhetoric instead of supporting the nation during a sensitive time.
He urged unity and restraint, stressing that national security should remain above partisan interests.
