Embassy says “no cause for panic” despite ongoing conflict
Amid escalating tensions in the Gulf, Iran has reassured India over the safety of the Strait of Hormuz, even as disruptions continue to affect global shipping routes.
In a message posted on X, the Iranian Embassy in India said, “Our Indian friends are in safe hands, no worries,” seeking to calm concerns over the impact of the ongoing conflict on energy supplies and maritime movement.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor connecting the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea, has witnessed disruptions due to the continuing unrest in the region.
Indian authorities remain on high alert, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry of External Affairs maintaining close coordination with Iranian officials and other regional leaders to ensure the safety of Indian nationals and vessels.
Officials said at least eight Indian ships have already exited the strait, including LPG carriers BW TYR and BW ELM, which together carried around 94,000 tonnes of cargo.
However, concerns persist as 19 vessels carrying LPG, crude oil and LNG meant for India remain stranded in the region. These include 10 foreign-flagged ships — three LPG carriers, four crude oil tankers and three LNG vessels — along with nine Indian-flagged ships comprising LPG, LNG and crude carriers.
The affected vessels are among nearly 500 ships caught in the narrow waterway amid the conflict, underlining the growing pressure on global energy supply chains.
