Kejriwal announces Bhagwant Mann as the CM face of Punjab
The spokesperson of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Raghav Chadha held a press conference in which Bhagwant Mann was declared as the Chief Minister face of the party in the upcoming Assembly polls in Punjab.
Earlier on Thursday, Kejriwal had announced that he was leaving the choice of the party’s CM face to the people of Punjab.
The party had launched a mobile number for the purpose. Voters were asked to give their feedback by 5 pm till January 17 by recording their voice sending SMS or WhatsApp.
Notably, AAP had received around 22 lakh responses under its campaign to elect its CM face for the Assembly polls. The party convenor announced the result of the opinion poll at Mohali on Tuesday. The poll results declared Mann as the CM candidate. He said over 93 percent of voters voted for Mann.
In June last year, the Delhi Chief Minister had announced that AAP’s CM face for the Punjab Assembly elections 2022 will be from the Sikh community and said that the “entire Punjab will be proud of him.”
Arvind Kejriwal had said, “Bhagwant Mann is very dear to me, he is like my younger brother, I was also sitting in the room saying that we should make Bhagwant Mann the Chief Ministerial candidate, but he said that no, we should ask people. This ritual of deciding the Chief Ministerial candidate in closed doors should be stopped.”
