Punjab pulls security for Raghav Chadha; MHA steps in
The Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha has had his Z+ category security cover withdrawn by the Punjab Government, days after being removed as the party’s deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, sources said.
Punjab Police personnel assigned to Chadha’s security have been asked to report back to headquarters, indicating an immediate rollback of the cover.
Centre steps in with new security cover
Following the withdrawal, the Ministry of Home Affairs stepped in to provide security to the MP.
Sources said Chadha will be given ‘Z’ category security in Delhi and Punjab, and ‘Y’ category protection in the rest of the country.
Developments amid political rift
The move comes amid an ongoing rift between Chadha and his party. Earlier this month, AAP removed him from the post of deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha.
The party had accused him of not strongly opposing the Centre in Parliament and engaging in “soft PR”.
Chadha rejected the allegations, calling them “lies” and stating that his focus in Parliament has been on raising public issues rather than creating disruptions.
