Red Fort blast case: Ninth accused Yasir Ahmad Dar remanded to NIA custody

A Delhi court on Thursday remanded Yasir Ahmad Dar, the ninth accused in the Red Fort blast case, to the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) till December 26.

Special Judge Prashant Sharma of the Patiala House District Court allowed the NIA’s plea seeking custodial interrogation of Dar, citing the need to probe his alleged role in the conspiracy behind the deadly attack.

Dar, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir, was produced before the court around 2.30 pm amid tight security arrangements. Media persons were not permitted inside the courtroom during the proceedings.

Arrest and role in the conspiracy

Earlier in the day, the NIA arrested Dar, describing him as a close associate of suicide bomber Umar-un-Nabi. According to the agency, Dar played an active role in planning and executing the conspiracy that led to the blast near the Red Fort on November 10, which killed 15 people and injured several others.

The agency alleged that Dar had taken an oath to carry out self-sacrificial operations and remained in constant touch with other key accused in the case, including Umar-un-Nabi and religious preacher Mufti Irfan.

    Other accused in the case

So far, the NIA has arrested eight other accused in connection with the case. Those arrested include four doctors — Dr Muzammil Ganaie, Dr Adeel Rather, Dr Shaheen Sayeed and Dr Bilal Naseer Malla — along with Maulvi Irfan.

Two other accused, Amir Rashid Ali and Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, were also taken into custody. Ali allegedly purchased the Hyundai i20 car in his name, which was later loaded with explosives, including ammonium nitrate, and detonated near the Red Fort.

On November 26, the NIA arrested Soyab, a resident of Dhauj in Faridabad, for allegedly providing logistical support to Umar-un-Nabi prior to the attack.

Umar-un-Nabi was driving the explosive-laden car when it detonated outside the Red Fort, triggering one of the deadliest terror attacks in the national capital in recent years.
